The plot is that penniless Peter Plunkett, played by O Toole, concocts the, so he believes, perfect scheme to save his crumbling and debt ridden Irish castle. He only need lure some sappy American tourists by advertising his place as being genuinely haunted. When Peter and his staff break our the old and dusty sheets and rusty chains to go a hunting for the haunting, they scare some real spooks and turn up more than paying than just their paying guests. The group unknowingly arouse the real spirits of the Irish Castle Plunkett. When American tourist Jack, played by Guttenberg, spots a gorgeous apparition named Mary, played by Hannah, it is love at first sighting.
