DVD Synopsis and information: This
film is based on the lurid novel by author Judith Rossner and loosely
on a true story. A fascinating tale of truly dual life that has Diane
Keaton playing Theresa in her first breakout serious dramatic role,
though she won an Academy Award that same year for for her role in Annie
Hall. Keaton is more than good and gives a fascinating portrayal of a
teacher by day and a wild, partying and sexually free woman by night.
This movie also gave the first meaty roles to both future stars Richard
Gere and Tom Berenger.
A really gritty film filled with drama and
tension. The script and realism are amazing in this film. Theresa,
played by Keaton, is a good and fully repressed Catholic school
instructor who specializes in hearing impaired kids. Right in the middle
of the 70s disco and sexual revolution, Theresa discovers that she has
an insatiable desire for sex and men. The film
makers took a real chance on the ending of this movie. It pays off in
what some consider one of the most shocking film endings from a large
studio in the 70s.

Keaton's character tries to keep it strictly
physical and avoid any emotional involvement; that is until she meets
Mr. Badbar. Keaton really stretches out in this role and breaks some new
ground at the time with a very gritty and raw performance.
