Betty (played by Sally Field) has come to the Middle East with her
daughter and her native born husband (played fantastically by Alfred Molina)
for a short visit with his family. Soon Betty begins to learn the horrible

spouse doesn't in any way intend to bring his family back to America, ever.
Betty may return, he says, but their daughter must stay in the country with him
and his newly found radical views. Her husband has centuries of local custom
and the oppressive power of the police state behind him. Betty is a stranger in
a foreign land, with no money, friends or rights. Betty does have an
unconquerable will and she will never leave the without her beloved daughter at
her side. In an extremely hostile, war torn country, where even the slightest
misstep can mean death or imprisonment, Betty makes a desperate effort to
escape with her child. Her story, courage and ultimately her will are
