Roe vs Wade 1989 Made For TV Movie that chronicles and dramatizes the events leading up to the now historic and infamous Roe vs. Wade. The case was ultimately decided and ruled on by the US Supreme Court. This landmark decision allowed women to obtain abortions legally in the United State.
In February 1970, Ellen Russell (played by Holly Hunter), was a poor and pregnant carnival barker in rural Texas. Ellen sought help from an inexperienced attorney, Sarah Weddington, to help her in a ground-breaking suit against the district attorney of Dallas so that she can have an abortion (at the time abortion was not legal in the state of Texas). The district court's refusal to issue an injunction prevented Russell from legally terminating her pregnancy. Ellen is then forced to give away her newly born baby for adoption. In the meantime, the case and its' massive litigation requirements places and extreme burden both personally and financially on Ellen's attorney Weddington (played by Amy Madigan).
