A
Basketball movie with an African twist. Kevin Bacon takes the lead role
in this hoop story with a unique slant on recruiting. Bacon's character
is an arrogant assistant basketball coach that is sent to checkout blue
chip prospect in Africa. This is at times a fun and enjoyable sports
film that never takes itself too seriously. Bacon is terrific in this
film and his comic and dramatic timing are solid. The film feels very
real. Taking a young man from his home in Africa and depositing him in a
collegiate co-ed environment makes for some interesting and comical
moments. An excellent 90s adventure comedy.
Bacon and Maina are terrific on screen together and really bring a sense of heart and warmth to the film. The Air Up there DVD 1994 is great fun and Kevin Bacon is tremendous.
