What happens when a casual sightseeing USSR commander runs his battle submarine aground just off the New England coastline? Crazy and insane comedy occurs when the crew attempts to find a boat to dislodge them almost and almost start World War III! Alan Arkin is superb and he leads and all star comedic cast that includes Carl Reiner, Eva Marie Saint, Brian Keith, and the incomparable Jonathan Winters in this wacky and hilarious 60s Cold War comedy! Arkin and Reiner are magnificent in this comedic romp.
The Russian Lieutenant Rozanov, played terrifically by Alan Arkin, and his goof ball crew literally hit the beaches of Massachusetts and are completely oblivious of the panic that they're about to cause. Never mind the somewhat harmless intentions of these Russians , the folks in town are certain that a full scale Soviet invasion has been launched and they are the first to be attacked! What is worse, the local police chief, played by Brian Keith, has left his silly assistant, Jonathan Winters, in charge and the only guy who knows the truth, played by Carl Reiner, is only stirring up more trouble! The Russians Are Coming DVD is great 60s classic comedy cinema.
