Grief-stricken newspaper writer Francis Church (played by Charles Bronson) has been struggling with the passing of his spouse Elizabeth. Church gets a very special assignment during his time of grief. He must attempt to answer a young girl's question that asks if Santa Claus is in fact, real. When young Virginia O'Hanlon (played by Katharine Isabelle) hears from her friends that there is no Santa Claus she absolutely does not believe them. Since Virginia's father James O'Hanlon (played by Richard Thomas) had told her before that everything that is printed in the newspaper has to be true, Virginia sits down to writes a letter to the newspaper. The letter is received by newspaper writer and journalist Francis Church (Bronson) who has to somehow answer this young girl’s letter while coping with the grief of his beloved wife's death.
